Cruising Asia is a True Delight

Monday, January 18th, 2010

A cruise is a voyage of discovery, an experience of cultural extravaganza of various civilizations. Cruising can reveal the biggest continents with the lengthiest coastlines and the highest mountains of the world.

To explore the true majesty of our world and its magnificent past, to experience the agnanimity of its religions and its peoples, embark on a cruise . You will never ever forget the experience.

Of all the cruises that I have been on, I liked the Asia cruise because it takes you to Singapore and Hong Kong. It was definitely worth a look. The temples in Thailand , the temples of India, or the peaceful eyes of Buddha, redefine spiritual faith of the believers and non-believers. Native women display graceful dance forms of India , the Japanese tea ceremony and the Chinese theatre. All of these wonders have enormous cultural significance that are and integral part of the region’s tradition. It is a pleasure to be a spectator of such enormous cultural and traditional environment intermingles with every walk of life, so alike to each other yet so very regional in its own right.

The Asia cruise takes the traveler along the Malaysian, Vietnamese and the Thai seas. Splurge on pretty gifts from the fabulous shopping arcades of Singapore and Hong Kong . Take time to spoil yourself in Dubai. Be a part of a once in a lifetime shopping experience with discounts and promotional offers like you have never seen. Come to Bollywood, know what family entertainmentcan be found and enjoyed by watching a Hindi film.

Your Asia cruise can be a channel and opportunity to explore the cultures and land masses with their own unique spirit and expression. You can go on an Asia cruise to suit your own needs
whether it is Far East or the southern pacific. Every cruise has its mystique and its own story to unfold.

After you have chosen your cruise, you should expect elegance and no gimmicks. You can enjoy your vacation at your own pace as if you were still at home but better. If you like solitary
experiences then you can jog unmolested, swim a lap in warm pools or read a great book. You should, however, take part in some of the free activities. Join the exercise classes, get a soothing massage, and enjoy a relaxing sauna.

Some cruises offer aerial sightseeing, white water rafting, and hikes amongst other things. You can find spas, health clubs and even wedding chapels on your cruise ship.Children have special play areas or centers with lots of fun and entertainment. The cruise agency often invite at least one guest speaker to share their experiences about the region you are traveling through giving you funny and sometimes curious insights. Most of the cruise staff provides excellent service and all guests get first class attention.

The dedicated staff looks after you very well and is there at your beckoned call. You can find the vital information you need from the staff and other places on board about where to find souvenirs, to shop for local handicrafts, or nice restaurants that are sure to delight and amaze you.

Asian cruises have exotic entertainment billings that showcase authentic entertainment and special theme events, hilarious comedies, and regional musicals. The exquisite dance perrformances will most assuredly leave you spell bound.

Spellbound and mesmerized will be the mood for you when your cruise journey ends. Surely, you and the ones you love will benefit in more ways than one from a trip of this magnitude.

Maniac Investment

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Let’s first understand what maniac
means. According to Webster a maniac is “mad;
raging with madness; raging with disordered
intellect”. You don’t know anyone like that, do
you?

There is a book that is still in
print today that was originally published in
1841 with the title Extraordinary and Popular
Delusions of Crowds by Charles Mackay. He
explains in rather horrific detail how people
were caught up in the madness of buying property
in the South Seas in 1720, the numismatic coin
craze of 1980 and the tulip bulb trading in
1637. You wonder how people could have been so
gullible to have bought a single tulip bulb or
land they would never see for huge amounts of
money. Could anything like this ever happen
again?

I was floor trader on the commodity
exchange in 1973 when the Hunt brothers drove
silver from $2.00 per ounce to $54. That mania
lasted a few months and quickly tanked to $6.00.
I took part in that mania. I was one of the
maniacs.

When it was taking place it seemed
like the thing to do and very few questioned the
sanity of those participating. In fact, if you
weren’t part of the crowd there was something
wrong with you. When there is a stampede it is
best to run with the herd or be trampled to
death. However, there were a few who were not
mesmerized.

Today we are participating in one of
those manias only now it is called a bubble and
still is not being taken too seriously. Yes, it
is the stock market mania. Many are still
trapped in the madness of the crowd of the
1990’s who believe the “market always comes
back”. They are clutching their tulip bulbs,
sorry, stock certificates, and refuse to let go
of them because they know their value will grow
back to what it was 3 years ago. Stock owners
have become mad with what - greed? fear? denial?

When something, almost anything,
drops 50% in price it will take a 100% increase
in value to get back to “even”. With today’s
economic and world conditions that could be a
long time and maybe not in our lifetime.

Years ago I heard a story about how
they used to catch monkeys. A small hole just
big enough for the monkey to slip his empty hand
inside would be drilled in a coconut and candy
and fruit would be put in it. The coconut was
tied to a stake in the ground. When the monkey
grabbed a fistful of goodies he would not let go
even when the hunter came for him. Greed holds
him in an invisible grip.

Many investors today are like those
monkeys. They refuse to sell what is remaining
of the stocks and mutual funds they own even
though they can clearly see the major trend
continues down. They became mad with greed and
now fear of loss entraps them.

Until this madness is recognized
investors will continue to see their portfolios
become smaller and smaller. They must learn to
let go.

Written 3/10/03 but still applies today.

Not all Personal Trainers are Equal… How to Choose a Good One

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Working with your own coach can be a significant investment - even with hourly rates differing vastly across regions and countries - you are still paying a fair amount of money for the expert knowledge that will help you achieve your health and fitness goals and look after one of, if not, THE most important assets you have - your body.

So how should you choose a trainer and what are the things you need to look out for, ask them and receive from them?

First and foremost, you MUST ensure your trainer is fully and properly qualified. This means they should hold, at the very least:

1) A CPR certification - if you do have any accidents or problems your coach must know how to deal with them and ensure your safety at all times.

2) A recognised fitness/personal training qualification - this obviously differs from country to country and there are only a few internationally-recognised qualifications. Most countries have a self-regulating body - in the UK this is REPS (the Register of Exercise Professionals) and you should ensure your coach is registered here before you even consider hiring them. If in doubt, ask your trainer which qualifications they have - most won’t be offended but will be keen to show them off.

Once you are satisfied they hold the necessary basic qualifications, here are a few pointers to look out for. A ‘good’ versus a ‘bad’ coach should:

1. Ideally hold additional qualifications and be updating these all the time. As our scientific knowledge about the body increases, the methods with which we train the body change. If your trainer qualified 5 years ago but has done no further qualifications since, it’s likely their training methods & knowledge will be out of date. A leader in health & fitness training is the CHEK Institute - their practitioners work with some of the world’s top athletes, including PGA Golfers and Olympians. A CHEK-trained coach (even at the basic level) will usually be far more highly qualified than the personal trainer with a “typical” national training qualification.

2. Address more than just your fitness levels & give you more than just a fitness programme. Exercise is only a small part of what makes us “fit” and “healthy”. To help you achieve your health & fitness goals, your coach should address several areas of your life - your nutrition & eating habits, sleep patterns, stress levels - all of these affect & determine how likely you are to achieve your goals and if not addressed, can prevent you from attaining optimum levels of health & fitness.

3. Perform some initial assessments. In order to help you get where you want to be, your coach must know where you are starting from. You should be asked to complete a PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness questionnaire) at a minimum to ensure your safety & ability to perform exercise and your trainer should perform some basic tests such as weight, blood pressure, perhaps body composition, girth measurements, lung capacity and aerobic fitness or strength. If more qualified, additional assessments such as postural analysis, spinal curve measurements and abdominal wall function should be tested to design a more accurate programme. And if your coach is really good, they will assess your physiological load levels to determine what type of exercise (strength training, cardio, meditation, stretching) your body is currently able to cope with. This is essential if you want to know whether what you’ve paid them has been worth it - if you can’t see the progress or differences working with a coach has made because they forgot to measure a baseline when you started with them, then although you may feel fitter, slimmer or stronger you won’t have hard facts & figures to prove it.

4. Discuss your goals with you and adjust any unrealistic expectations you may have. To get your business, a trainer may promise that you will lose half a stone of fat in 2 weeks or you’ll get the body of your dreams in a month even though you’ve never exercised before and are 3 stone overweight - this does you no good. You will have unrealistic expectations & goals from the outset and will be much more likely to become de-motivated & disillusioned when you realise you haven’t lost a stone in a week. Whilst a good trainer will not discourage you from your ultimate goals, they should at least educate you on the realistic progressions you are likely to make.

5. Design a programme that is tailored especially to your needs and your body. This may sound obvious but I have seen plenty of trainers run through identical training sessions with every one of their clients. This ties in with the third point - if they haven’t completed assessments & initial tests on you, then they won’t know what your individual needs are. You are paying them to provide you with a fully customised service - that’s why it’s called ‘personal training ‘!

6. Track your progress at every session & be working to a periodisation plan - you may not see them carrying a clipboard or doing this during the session but your trainer should know when they need to adjust your programme and what adjustments to make. If they’ve been winging your sessions and haven’t been planning & tracking your progress, how will they know what adjustments to make after a few weeks? They should have designed & be following a periodised training plan to ensure you are achieving your goals during each phase of your training.

7. Show you how to exercise safely & correctly - again this may seem a given but if your trainer gives you a programme and then just leaves you to it, they are putting you at risk and not only will you probably struggle to achieve your goals without their attention, you may even injure yourself. Similarly, if they are supervising you, they should constantly be giving you tips, adjustments or even just positive affirmations that you are performing your exercises correctly - not watching the sport on TV or chatting to other staff & clients in the gym.

All of the above are nothing however, if you don’t actually get on with your coach! They may be the most highly qualified person you can find - but if spending an hour with them (sometimes 3 or more times a week) is like spending an hour in the dentist’s chair or worse, then you probably aren’t going to get the full benefit of working with that trainer. They don’t have to be your best buddy, just ensure that you feel comfortable with them, can trust them and that you do enjoy your sessions - in a masochistic kind of way!

Dog Poo ( Turd Tales )

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

And you thought we had problems?

In Southern Germany in a town by the name of Bayreuth, the German police are in a quandary. The town’s dog poo is under attack. Park officials are desperate to resolve what could become an international incident. Unknown person or persons have been sticking little US flags into piles of doggie poo for over a year now.

Surprisingly the dog poo brigade has managed to target between 2,000 to 3,000 abandoned piles of excrement in Bayreuth public parks. Quite who actually counted them all and provided these statistics is debatable but the source is rumoured as coming from the Parks Administrator - Josef Oettl. And you wondered what your parkie did each day?

What was thought to have started as a protest against the Iraqi war has continued through the US election campaign and is still a regular occurrence today. Have the German’s not heard of poop a scoop? Surely all self respecting German citizens collect their doggie poo. Poop in the parks and pavements was surely just a British thing?

German police are now stepping up patrols in order to catch these offenders. However, the poo could hit the fan if they ever tried to bring them to court. It is unclear what they would actually charge them with as there is no law against using doggie poo in this way. In fact, you could fly any flag from any piece of turd you find lying around. It’s not illegal but it cannot be a pleasant task. Surely this wouldn’t catch on over here in the UK - would it?

How Video can be used Effectively Online

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

A powerful way to convey your communication messages to your audience is to be able to have your promotional video available on your website.

Yet, we have probably all experienced visiting a website and clicking on a video only to have to been irritated that the content is not viewable or that the sound is inaudible. The result is we leave the website in frustration.

So how do you make sure the video content on your website can be watched by your audience? It all boils down to how you want your viewers to access your video file and the level of video quality you want your movie to be played at.

There are two different ways of sharing your video file on the web:

1. Streamable Video

This is where the viewer is able to download sections of your video (otherwise known as “streaming”), while the video is playing. The main benefit of this method is that the user does not have to spend time downloading the complete video before viewing.

There are three major streaming video formats - RealVideo (RM), QuickTime (MOV) and Windows Media (WMV). These are playable on Real Player, QuickTime Player and Windows Media Player respectively. Windows Media Player is widely available on most PC’s, as it is part of Windows Operating System. The other players need to be installed.

The only negative with streamable video is that the quality of the video is dependent upon Internet connection. In addition, it has the annoying habit of dropping video frames because the streaming software has to adjust the data rate based on the speed of your Internet connection, in order to keep playing the video.

2. Download and Play

This is where the viewer needs to download the entire video first, then play it on their video player application. The main advantage is that the video quality is not affected by Internet connection speed.

However, it can take some time for the video to download if the file is large.

So which format do you choose?

In a world where first impressions always count, it is extremely important for companies to appear professional and trustworthy at all times. Marketing videos with poor picture quality are likely to reflect a poor quality company in the mind of the viewer. Consequently, we always recommend the download and play option. This is because it allows for high quality video content to be viewed.

However, as you don’t want viewers to give up on downloading your video, we only recommend that short video clips are inserted onto your website.

This means your website users will be able to download a short video at a high quality picture resolution that will portray your company in the best possible way.

Landscape Photography - Capture the Beauty That is All Around

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

There are many different types of photography. You can take pictures of anything and there is someone out there somewhere who would like to see the pictures that you take. So, photography is a great field to get into.

- What is landscape photography?

Landscape photography is a great field of photography, especially if you love nature and if you love to travel. You can travel the world taking pictures of beautiful scenes across many countries. Of course, this is landscape photography on a big scale. Not many people are lucky enough to start off traveling the world.

But you can find beautiful landscapes right where you live. That’s the great thing about nature, it’s everywhere, and landscapes are everywhere. And that same sunset behind the mountain that you’ve seen everyday since you were a kid may look pretty amazing to someone who has never been to the mountains. Seeing the sun rise up out of the oceanfront may be absolutely astonishing to someone who has never been to the beach. It’s all relative.

What you may see every day is someone else’s treasure. If you can open your eyes to the beauty and see it, then other people can see it in your photography. It can be simple and everyday or it can be vast and amazing. It’s all about the great pictures you take. You may see a night city skyline, a series of lightening bolts or an interesting cloud; it’s how you take the picture that makes it beautiful to someone else.

- How to Learn Landscape Photography

If you are serious about landscape photography, you should take a course. You may have already had a course in photography but you will want to take one specifically for landscape photography so you can learn how to get the best pictures possible. You will want to learn what film to use and how to work with the sunlight or other natural light. You will also learn about achieving a sense of balance and scale, how to photograph running water and similar issues that a landscape photographer might face.

If you can’t find any appropriate classes in your area, you can find them on the internet. You can also find many groups and message boards designed for landscape photographers to meet, share photos and tips and ideas. You can get tips and advice for your questions if you join these groups. You can also view the work of others, some that may be much more experienced than you. You can learn from them and their photos.

- How to Make Money with Landscape Photography

If you are considering landscape photography as a career (even part time), the first thing you are going to want to do is learn as much about it as possible; read books, take classes, visit websites. Then you are going to want to practice, and build a portfolio. Your portfolio should be updated often and only include your absolute best work. You may want to send some of your best photos to photo contests or magazines. These are good ways of breaking into the world of professional photography when you have no experience.

The Elottery System Secures a Lotto Prize to Each Player Taking Part in the Elgordo

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

A major event within the Euromillions Euro lottery is the Elgordo Loteria - and you should want to learn about this part. Famed for one of the biggest jackpots in the world, this game of hazard offers payouts that can run up to over two and a half billion Euros. Even that isn’t the only thing that’s special here. With over thirteen thousand prizes available your odds of winning something work out to around one in every six. That’s very good by the standards of the prizes promoted by competing lotteries!

With the Euromillions Euro lotto one draw is held every month. But three months a year are set to bigger draws for grander prizes. Precisely: the January “El Nio”, the summer “San Ildefonso”, and the Xmas “Elgordo” (which, appropriately, translates as “the Fat Cat”) with Christmas’s draw being the biggest and most popular of the twelve.

Unusually for lottery systems, the balls used in the El Gordo lottery sport five digits on each, these numbers ranging from 00,000 to 84,999. One ball will be drawn from each of two bowls; the first bowl indicates the winning ticket, while the second determines the prize value.

Should you want to have a chance to win there is an entire ticket called a “serie”. There is also a cheaper option; called a “d©cimo” valued at one tenth of a full ticket. Sadly, both these choices are comparatively pricey ways to play and neither of the two ramps up your odds of a payout . This is the reason that the e-lottery scheme is used by many Euromillions Euro lotto players.

This system guarantees a prize to every participant. All you do is buy into the El Gordo Lotto syndicate and you’ll be pooled into teams. Each team is assigned a number from 1-9, the last number on the winning ball in the draw identifying the team that will receive the prize. All members then receive their share of the prize. Following that, subscriptions are offered ready for the lottery held next month.

The concept of sharing the prizes is cause for concern to some players. But when you stop to think how much more than two and a half billion Euros really is, there’s still plenty to go around. You’ll find the e-lottery program is far more cost effective, and knowing that you’ll share in a prize in each draw, you don’t have to worry about constantly losing. There’s absolutely no smarter way to play …

We recommend you check out this trusted reliable resource for e lottery reviews suggestions

Monthly Budgeting as a Long Term Strategy

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

If you’re reading this article, you’re probably going through slight financial stress and searching for a way to gain control of your finances. Producing and committing to a monthly budget has always been one of the best methods to do this. Having a sound budget is fundamental for managing money, one that has allowed me to survive even on limited funds. Monitoring my monthly budget is one of the most crucial things I do every month, and it has allowed me to systematically meet all expenses, grow my savings, and control debt.

I usually plan my budget for the upcoming month towards the end of the month. This provides me with a better view of my expenses in the upcoming month. It’s not a good idea to produce a budget after getting paid because, too often, that flush feeling of getting a paycheck leads to uneccessary and impulsive spending before the paycheck ever reaches the bank.

I start my personal budget by outlining all the disbursements that must be paid on time like, mortgage repayments, utilities, insurance payments and motorcar loans. These are the essential things that I must pay to keep a comfortable roof over my head. I like to pad these requirements to produce “money back” after paying the bills and, if costs increase circumstantially, I’m always covered.

Next, my budget is subjected to a list of discretionary things I need to cover but could live without if absolutely needed. These items may include monthly savings deposits, credit card repayments, and donations to charity. Don’t get me wrong, some of these things are also necessary, but in case of emergency they can be left out. By paying credit card companies the maximum instead of the minimum, I keep my credit score high and my debt low.

My budget will not include the cost of food, clothing, or entertainment. These expenses get covered by what’s left over and that’s that. Some months involve lots of beans and rice, slow-cooker meals, free or cheap entertainment, and only one inexpensive piece of clothing . This strategy of overseeing my monthly budget has worked out very well over the long term as long as I observe it religiously.
