Debt Advice is Very Rarely Totally Free

Today there are large numbers of debt consolidation businesses competing with one another to offer cost free debt advice. Most organisations will give free no strings debt information. However whether these organisations are delivering the best overall value with regards their service and the information they give?

Finding debt advice which is honest and un-biased can be a problematic process. Even so shopping around for the best service is essential for debt management services. Debtors should never merely go with the first company that offers them help.

The biggest problem is that debt management companies are actually out to return some financial benefit for themselves. Revenue is derived by forwarding debtors on to different businesses or alternatively by collecting setup costs from the companies to whom money is owed. Therefore it is not easy to understand how effectively these businesses are really representing their clients. The risk is that these debt counselling organisations will be inclined to make decisions skewed by their own margins instead of serving the interests of their customers.

The truth is a great proportion of clients fail to fully appreciate the different services regarding debt management generally. If clients did understand then these debtors would have no requirement for advice from debt advisers.

Debt counselling businesses are regulated by government bodies to ensure they are professional and manage individual confidentiality. The problem is that it is not feasible to scrutinise or prove a particular advisers rational when offering cost free debt advice. The question is, how is it possible for an official regulator find out if debt counselling was provided in the best interests of the consumer or if, instead services provided were swayed by the advisers own income?
